Adding an Image in a Text Widget
Mike / July 19th, 2009 / 10 Comments »I like text widgets. I think they are very useful and really convenient in a website. Especially if you know a bit of html code, you can play with them the way you want.
We’ve used text widgets in all the demos of the themes we have released and we’ll be using them again. Some of our clients have asked a question which I intend to explain a bit in this post. “How to add the images in the text widgets?” You could check the front page text widgets of the Revival and Prospectum themes to get an idea of what I am talking about.
The first thing to do is upload the image in your wordpress installation. I think that the easiest way to do that is this.
Create a new post, click on the Upload/Insert button in the top of the content area as shown on the image. The next steps are pretty clear I think. You need to browse for your image in your computer, upload it, and insert into the post as a full sized image.
If you go to the html view of your post, you can see the code of the uploaded image. Now what you need to do is copy the whole code.

The next step to do is go to your widgets section, drag and drop a Text Widget to your sidebar, and in the text area paste the code that you just copied. Write a title to the widget (or not) put some text below the image code and click save, and your text widget should appear in your website.
Love your templates. I am using Prospectum. I do have a question… I am trying to have the text widgets have the same layout as on your demo for sidebar 2. However, text widgets 3 and 4 (as added) are stacked under the second text widget. see my website above. thanks.
Hi Margaret, that’s because the height of your 2nd widget is very small according to the 1st. The widgets will fill the empty space first.
Mike… I have added text, but as you can see from the front page of my website, there is too much space below the Antares text in sidebar 2. Any ideas??
thanks.
If you want them to look nicer, the 2nd widget must have same height as first, the 3rd same as 4th.
For support please send me e-mails, we don’t use the comment area for support.
how do I put the small images in the front page of the revival theme.
Hi Von, you can do it as explained in the article above. Please send me an e-mail if any problem. Happy New Year!
This works great. Thanks!
Is this the same method that should be used for embedding video also as a widget? I’m using Space Color theme and in the demo you have both a still image with text and an embedded video.
Thanks!
Jennifer.
For videos just put the embed code in a text widget. Makes sure you change the height and width so it fits nicely in the widget area.
Thank you for the great collection of wordpress themes, I have been searching for a while and these templates are what I trully want to use for my new blog.
